School health care
Each student who attends
school is entitled to free school health care services.
School health care is
primarily provided by the school nurse and school doctor. Other health
centre employees - such as psychologists, physical therapists and speech
therapists - are also used. In large schools, the school nurse is available
every day, while smaller schools offer school nurse services weekly or
monthly depending on the number of students.
The school nurse arranges
physical examinations and health meetings in accordance with an annually
accepted programme and performs student welfare work. The nurse’s duties
also include implementation of student care and vaccination programmes
The school doctor meets
with fifth-grade students and their parents and prepares a youth health
certificate for ninth-graders. Medical treatment of students is the
responsibility of the personal physician determined on the basis of
residential address.
