Kiikartorni

(Syväraumanlahti)

The original Kiikartorni was completed in the harbour in 1892 in the heyday of Rauma seafaring, as the town’s sailing ships crossed the seas. It aided communication between the harbour and town and between the harbour and seafarers. The tower still communicated weather conditions in the 1940s. In 1956, it had become redundant and was demolished. The current observation tower on the shore of Syväraumanlahti Bay is an exact replica of the tower in the harbour.
