Rauma Lace Week Remains a Crowd Puller
Sunday 30
July 2006 saw the conclusion of the 36th Rauma Lace Week, this successful
event attracting plenty of visitors.
Beginning with
traditional drumming by Pyyrman Reino Peippo on Saturday 22 July, the Lace
Week offered a host of attractions each day, with a variety of performances,
demonstrations, concerts and craft fairs. Tuesday climaxed with the Miss
Lace 2006 competition, with the jury selecting Iina Laine as the new Miss
Lace. The Lace Week programme not only included a wide range of exhibitions,
with a special emphasis on lace and craft, but also numerous events for
children, such as concerts, performances and workshops.
The Black Lace
Night on Friday marked the culmination of the week, this event’s programme
certainly catering for every taste. As usual, the streets of Rauma’s town
centre were crowded with people in festive mood. Friday afternoon saw a lace
bobbin speed competition, won by Arja Mäkelä.
