Joulupukki and Santa Claus
- Who Brings the Presents to the Children?

In
different countries, Christmas presents are given on different days.
In Finland "joulupukki" ("julbock") brings the presents personally
on Christmas Eve, but for example in the Netherlands Sinter Klaas (Saint
Nicholas) brings the presents already on December 5th, the eve of
the saint's nameday. The museum's Christmas exhibition examines the
present giving traditions in different countries - their differences
and similarities. |

The Granlund Story

Gabriel Granlund,
who lived in Marela since 1873, was once one of the wealthiest
shipowners in Rauma. As a museum Marela presents the house during
his time.The exhibition looks deeper into the interesting history of
the Granlund family.

The Rauma Guild 75 years
Marela 14.2.-29.3.
The Rauma
Guild was founded on Kalevala Day of 1934 to cherish and further
local culture. As The Guild's initiative, Rauma history has been
recorded for example in the form of memorial plaques in different
historic sites around town.
The exhibition presents
the history and activities of the Guild through photographs, objects
and documents. |

Easter Eggs
Marela 3.4.-7.6.
Easter eggs have a long
historical tradition. Originally the egg was the symbol of new life.
Easter is also celebrated in the spring, during the time of rebirth
and growth. In Christian tradition the egg is a symbol of Christ's
resurrection. The exhibition presents a large variety of different
Easter eggs.

Porcelain by Arabia
Marela 12.6.-15.11.
Last year
Rauma Museum exhibited Russian porcelain from a local private
collection. This year we are bringing on display Finnish porcelain
by the Arabia porcelain factory, also from the collection of Yrjö
and Salme Kumpuharju. The exhibition emphasizes on the early
production of the Arabia factory, founded in 1873. |

Lace from Vadstena,
Sweden
Old Town Hall and Marela

This year's
Lace Week exhibition presents a display of both traditional and
modern laces from Sweden's lace center Vadstena. Traditional laces
are displayed at the Old Town Hall with the theme Historic
collars and royal portraits and modern laces can be seen in
Marela.
