History of the Museum

The Rauma Museum was founded in 1891 on the initiative of private citizens. Soon, however, the town administration took charge of it. During its over hundred years of operation the museum has concentrated on the history of the city and on the local culture. The special fields of interest are closely linked to the character of the town: the architectural environment, shipping and lace. The museum started out in rented premises, but already a hundred years ago we were able to move to the second floor of the Old Town Hall, since the town council moved into its current premises.
