As a UNESCO World Heritage
site, Old Rauma is a unique environment to operate in and therefore
presenting it is a special task of the museum. From the museum sites
The Old Town Hall, Marela and Kirsti are located in Old Rauma.

The Potter’s Workshop is
located just outside the old town. It could not be opened in the
densely built old town due to the fire hazard. The houses in Old Rauma
were, however, exactly those that needed the oven tiles. The museum
sites are linked to lace making and the use of laces, as well as
maritime history. The museum is also in charge of a lookout tower,
Kiikartorni, which is linked to the maritime traditions of Rauma. The
architectural environment, the life of the townspeople, and their
relation to the region are areas of research for the museum. In the
same way the history and prehistory of the region belong to the field
of the museum, as well as informing the townspeople and visitors about
it. |
