Activities
The Pyhäjärvi
Institute is a centre of further education, development and research in
Southwest Finland, in the municipality of Eura. The main activities are
the planning and implementation of development projects, further
education and expertise services.
The Pyhäjärvi
Institute's first mission is to ensure the production facilities and
competitiveness of the food sector in the region. The development work
is based on the principles of sustainable development. The second
mission of the Pyhäjärvi Institute is lake and river restoration.
The customers
of the food development sector are primary producers, entrepreneurs,
specialised businesses, professional fishermen, advisors and supervisors
of food organisations.
The customers
of the water system division are primary producers, entrepreneurs, other
developers from lake and river restoration projects, municipal
authorities and the environmental sector, but also include local
inhabitants (including summer inhabitants) of the lake’s drain-age basin
area.
The main target
areas of the activities are the regions of Rauma and Satakunta, but
occasionally the activities concern the whole area of South-western
Finland.
The Institute
is maintained by a foundation established by the local municipalities
and companies in the Pyhäjärvi region as well as the University of
Turku. The Institute is a member of the network of the National Food
Expertise Centre. Finally, the co-operation between the Institute’s
various experts, regional, national and international players creates
possibilities for successful outcomes.
