Elections in 2019

Two nationwide elections will be held in Spring 2019: Parliamentary elections and European elections.

The Parliamentary elections of 2019 will be held on Sunday 14 April 2019. The advance voting period in Finland is from 3 to 9 April 2019 and abroad from 3 to 6 April 2019. Parliamentary elections are held in Finland every four years. In parliamentary elections, Finnish citizens elect 200 Members of Parliament who decide on our common issues.

The most important task of Parliament is to enact laws. Society functions in accordance with its laws. Parliament also decides on the state’s Budget.

European Elections

The next elections to the European Parliament (European elections) will be held in all Member States of the European Union in 2019. In Finland the election day is Sunday 26 May 2019. The elections take place during a four-day election period. Each Member State shall hold the elections during the said period in accordance with its national legislation.

Under the EU legislation governing the elections, the Council may decide to move the date of the elections so that it is at most two months earlier or one month later than the period established under the legislation.
