Esko Poikela elected Mayor of Rauma

Rauma City Council unanimously elected Esko Poikela as the new Mayor of Rauma in it’s meeting on 27 September.

Esko Poikela is 60 years old and a Master of Education. He has worked as the Mayor of Lieto since 2014. Previously he was the education director of Kaarina from 2010 to 2014.

Rauma received seven applications for mayor by the deadline. Six of the applicants met the eligibility criteria. In addition, it was possible to apply for mayor through a consent procedure. Esko Poikela was involved in the selection process by giving his consent. The city government and the selection committee unanimously proposed the election of Poikela to the position.

City government and city council presidents, HR director Marika Alho and administrative manager Minna Liikanen made up the selection committee. Marjo Justen represented personnel in the committee. Mercuri Urval acted as consultant during the selection process.

Previous Mayor of Rauma Johanna Luukkonen became the Mayor of Hyvinkää in September.
