The City Council elected Johanna Luukkonen as the new Mayor of Rauma. The election was held as a ballot election, in which Luukkonen received 24 votes and Ari Korhonen received 19 votes.
Johanna Luukkonen is a 53-year-old Master of Administrative Sciences and the current Mayor of the town of Laitila. She has also worked as the Mayor of Kangasniemi from 2015 to 2017. Before that, she worked for the City of Hyvinkää from 2002 to 2014. In addition, she is also the chairman of the regional town network and a member of various ministry committees and the board of Hansel Oy.
The City of Rauma received ten applications for Mayor. A committee interviewed eight applicants of which five were sent to suitability testing. After the tests, two applicants were chosen for interviews in front of the City Board. The Board decided that the City Council will decide the new Mayor from the two interviewed applicants.
The current Mayor of Rauma Kari Koski will retire on the 30th of June 2020. He has been the Mayor since 2012.
