Museums in Rauma experienced record numbers of visitors during the summer

Parlor in Marela

The number of visitors in different museums in Rauma was exceptionally high during the summer season. For Rauma Art Museum the numbers almost doubled as the number of visitors was 74 percent higher than last year. Old Town Hall and Marela also saw a clear increase in attendance.

– Art Museum was closed in August for three weeks because a new exhibition was being built. Nevertheless almost 6000 visitors is a great result. The number comes mainly from visits in July and the Karelia-themed exhibit, cultural director Risto Kupari says.

Number of visitors rose in the OId Town Hall by 30 percent and 14 percent in Marela. Both had approximately 5000 visitors.

Home museum Kirsti had a moderate increase with 4000 visitors, an increase of 3 percent, even though no school visits happened this year.

Both Rauma Maritime Museum and Lönnström Art Museum had a 31 percent increase in visitors, with 6000 visits each.

Overall number of visitors in professional museums in Rauma was 20424 in summer 2019 and 26 461 in summer 2020. The corona epidemic increased travel within Finland, but no such increase was visible nationwide in museums.
