Krysostomos Chamber Choir: Vigilia by Mikko Sidoroff
The 20th anniversary of the Chamber Choir Krysostomos culminated in the premiere of Mikko Sidoroff’s new, large-scale Swedish-language composition Vigilia in Porvoo and Loviisa in October 2023. The work has reportedly never before been composed in another official language of Finland, and this will be the first concert sung entirely in Swedish by Krysostomos. The piece, which lasts about an hour, consists of the so-called ‘fixed parts’ of the communion and morning service of the Orthodox Church, which are always sung during the vigil on Saturday evenings. The first performance celebrates 20 years of successful collaboration between the choir and its founder Mikko Sidoroff.
Mikko Sidoroff’s work has been supported by the Svenska Kulturfonden, the Finnish Orthodox Church and the Sibelius Foundation of Finnish Composers. Many thanks!
