The Merry Widow – operetta
Franz Léhar, The Merry Widow – an operetta touring Finland!
One of the most popular operettas of all time; The Merry Widow will be revived under the new direction of Juulia Tapola.
The launching of the Pontevedro II ship and the christening ceremony are about to begin, but in reality the whole ship, with its opening ceremony, has been organised with debt money. The ship will be bankrupt even before its first voyage.
However, the ship’s captain, Baron Zeta, has a plan already in place; one of the ship’s officers must marry a millionaire widow, Hanna Glawari, who is celebrating the launch of her book on the cruise, and thus save the Pontevedro II from bankruptcy.
The most famous songs in the operetta include the Grain Song and the duet Vait`o lips.
The stage design is by Jari Jalonen and the music is performed by the Operetta salon orchestra. Soloists include Jyrki Anttila, Hanna-Kaisa Nyrönen/Laura Pyrrö, Rolf Broman, Jouni Kokora, Tiina Vahervaara.
