Rauma Model for Leisure Activities
Free hobby clubs for children in grades 1–9
The Rauma Model for Leisure Activities offers free hobby clubs for pupils in grades 3–9 as part of the school day. The clubs take place at schools and other locations around Rauma in cooperation with local sports clubs, associations and other organisations.
The aim is to help every child and young person find a hobby they enjoy. No previous experience or special skills are needed – everyone is welcome to join.
The Rauma Model for Leisure Activities is part of the Finnish Model for Leisure Activities, funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Just now!
The summer hobby clubs have now ended. We are preparing an exciting new programme for the autumn. Information about the hobby clubs and registration will be published in August.
Who can join the hobby clubs?
The hobby clubs are open to all children in grades 1–9.
Most hobby clubs are intended for children in grades 3–9, but there are also activities for younger children. The recommended age group is always mentioned in the club description.
The hobby clubs are mainly held in Finnish, but children from all language backgrounds are welcome. Our instructors will help and support every child when needed.
Children in grades 1–2
Children in grades 1–2 are also welcome to join hobby clubs intended for older children.
Many younger children attend the municipality’s after-school programme. If a child joins a hobby club, they do not return to the after-school programme after the club has finished. Please keep this in mind when signing up.
How do the hobby clubs work?
The hobby clubs take place during or after the school day at schools and other locations around Rauma. The length, schedules and number of sessions vary depending on the activity.
Children can join more than one hobby club if the schedules do not overlap and there are free places available.
We encourage families to find a good balance between hobbies, free time and rest. Having time to relax, play and spend time with friends is an important part of every child’s wellbeing.
Hobby clubs are not held during school holidays. If there are any schedule changes, cancellations or other important updates, parents or guardians will receive information by email. Please remember to check the email address you used when signing up.

Registration
Joining a hobby club is free.
You can sign up online before the start of each semester.
If a hobby club is full, you can sign up for the waiting list. Places may become available during the school year.
Can my child join more than one hobby club?
Yes! Children are welcome to join more than one hobby club if the schedules do not overlap and there are free places available. We encourage families to choose a number of hobbies that suits their child. It is important that children also have enough time to rest, play, spend time with friends and simply relax. If your child no longer wishes to attend a hobby club, please let us know as soon as possible. This allows us to offer the place to another child on the waiting list.
What if my child wants to stop attending?
That’s completely okay. Sometimes children discover that a hobby isn’t quite right for them. Please let us know as soon as possible if your child decides to stop attending. This helps us keep the groups up to date and offer available places to children on the waiting list.
Do I need to speak Finnish?
The hobby clubs are mainly held in Finnish, but children from all language backgrounds are warmly welcome. Our instructors will help and support every child, and many activities are easy to follow even with limited Finnish.
Does my child need previous experience?
No. Most hobby clubs are suitable for beginners, and everyone is welcome to try something new. If previous experience is needed for a particular hobby club, it will always be mentioned in the club description.
Can my child join during the school year?
Yes. If there are free places available, children can join many hobby clubs during the school year.
If a hobby club is full, we recommend signing up for the waiting list.
How will I receive information?
Important information, such as schedule changes, cancellations or other updates, will be sent to the email address you used when signing up. Please remember to check your email regularly throughout the school year.

Going to hobbies
Some of the hobbies are organized on school premises, but some of the hobbies are located a longer distance away.
If the hobby journey is long or the journey is otherwise challenging, participants have the opportunity to apply for a free local transport card.
