The City of Rauma has been awarded a grant from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) for the development of its fishing harbor. The Technical Committee will discuss the development project at its meeting on Tuesday, May 12.
The grant is intended to convert the electric crane installed in 2025 to electronically rotating, upgrade the fishing gear storage area and improve its safety with a fence, and replace the port’s ice-making machine. At the same time, solar panels would be added to the maintenance building to increase production capacity in an energy-efficient manner. According to the plan, the measures would be implemented during the coming summer.
The total cost estimate for the project is 102,000 euros, of which the EMFAF grant covers 80 percent.
The facilities at fishing harbor have been actively developed over the past two years. In 2024 and 2025, the harbor was upgraded with a new pier, a swing jib crane, and a weighing system. Those improvements were also made with the help of EMFAF funding.
The harbor is actively used by about 20 coastal fishermen.
