The RaumRoomTour – Money, Home and Real Life school tour, launched for the first time this year, visits all upper secondary education institutions in Rauma during the autumn. The tour will reach students at WinNova, Rauman Lyseo Upper Secondary School and Spesia Vocational College, providing young people with information about services that support independent living and life management.

The tour brings together organizations and service providers that young people can turn to for advice on housing, personal finances, wellbeing and working life. At the same time, students will receive practical tips and information on everyday life skills and the support available to them.

– We want to reach young people before challenges arise. The tour introduces them to different services while also helping them develop practical skills that are useful in everyday life. Our goal is to prevent issues such as financial difficulties, homelessness and evictions, says Meri Kujansivu, Housing Advisor.

Learning Everyday Life Skills Through Interactive Activities

The tour features nine organizations from the public sector, non-governmental organizations and advisory services. Participants include the City of Rauma’s property management services, employment services, the housing advisory project and youth services, as well as Kela, the National Enforcement Authority Finland, financial and debt counselling services, MIELI Mental Health Finland, and services for working-age adults provided by the Wellbeing Services County of Satakunta.

Each tour day consists of a video lecture, quizzes and interactive activity stations. At the stations, participants can put different skills into practice. Students collect stamps in an event passport from each station they visit, and prizes will be raffled among participants.

– The interactive stations turn familiar everyday situations into practical learning experiences. At the property management station, for example, students can practice window cleaning and estimate household water consumption. At Kela’s station, they can learn how student benefits cover different everyday expenses, Kujansivu explains.

Planning for the tour began at the end of 2025, and this year’s implementation serves as a pilot project. The idea originated from a similar model that has been successfully implemented in Oulu, but RaumRoomTour has been tailored to meet local needs in Rauma and to make the best use of the strengths of the participating organizations. Feedback collected during the pilot will be used to further develop the concept, with the aim of establishing RaumRoomTour as a permanent annual event.

– The model has been running in Oulu for ten years. Our hope is that RaumRoomTour will also become an annual tradition. If even one participant leaves the tour remembering an organization they can contact later for help or advice, we will have achieved our goal, Kujansivu says.
