Smoking ban in the law on renting residential apartments starting October 1, 2026

Some of the properties managed by the City of Rauma already have a smoking ban in all indoor spaces and in the immediate vicinity of the property. According to the updated Residential Tenancy Act (Act 531/2026) Section 26 a §, the smoking ban will also apply to all other properties starting from October 1, 2026.
The smoking ban applies to all rental agreements, whether it is mentioned in the lease or not. The ban covers indoor spaces of apartments, balconies, terraces, common areas, service balconies, and the immediate surroundings of the property, such as entrances and areas under windows.
Smoking is allowed in designated smoking areas, or if none are marked, we ask that you move a bit further away from walkways and make sure to dispose of your trash properly.
