The new pedestrian and bicycle lane on Pyhärannantie has opened — the opening ceremony will be held on September 21.

The pedestrian and bicycle lane on Highway 1960, Pyhärannantie, has been opened. A new 3.2-kilometer pedestrian and bicycle lane was built, and the old lighting was replaced along a 4.5-kilometer stretch. In addition, the Unaja village road was completed as part of the project. The new path and upgraded lighting improve conditions for walking and biking and enhance traffic safety, for example, for children traveling to school. The path runs from Unajantie to the Anttila-Voiluoto village house.
– The new lane enables safer travel for residents of the area. It is also part of the EuroVelo 10 cycling route that circles the entire Baltic Sea. In fact, Rauma has seen a growing number of recreational cyclists in recent years, says Kimmo Kouru, the physical activity coordinator.
The project was carried out in collaboration between the Southwest Finland Economic Development Center and the City of Rauma. The total cost of the project was 1.9 million euros, and in December 2024, the Finnish Parliament granted it separate allocation funding of one million euros. Maarakennus Jalonen Oy served as the contractor.
The opening ceremony will be held on Monday, September 21, at 5:30 p.m.
The opening ceremony, which is open to everyone, will take place on Monday, September 21, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Anttila-Voiluoto Village Hall, located at Anttilantie 3, Voiluoto. You can also attend the event by joining the group bike ride departing from the Kari campus at 5:00 p.m., led by the mountain bikers of Rauman Latu.
At the opening event, you can explore various types of bicycles and learn the basics of roller skiing under the guidance of Rasti-Lukko. Also participating are Chair of the Rauma City Council Otso Huuska, Liikenneturva, Rauman Seudun Pyöräilijät, Anttilan-Voiluodon Vesa, Unajan Urheilijat, and the Anttila-Voiluoto Village Association. The event is part of European Mobility Week.
Coffee and buns will be served to event participants.
