Venetsialaiset Celebrations Take Place This Weekend – Use Fireworks and Open Fires Responsibly

The last weekend of August marks the celebration of Venetsialaiset, a traditional event that brings the boating and summer cottage season to a close. Fireworks, bonfires, and campfires are all part of the festivities. When using fireworks or making open fires, all applicable regulations and safety instructions must be followed.
The private use of fireworks is permitted in Rauma on Saturday, 29 August 2026, from 6 p.m. to midnight without a separate notification, provided that the following conditions are met:
- Fireworks may not be used in residential areas covered by a town plan or near buildings.
- Permission from the landowner is required.
- The use of fireworks is prohibited during a wildfire warning issued by the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
Open fires that generate a significant amount of smoke must always be reported to the local rescue authority. Fire notifications can be submitted via the electronic form available on the Rescue Department’s website. Notifications can also be made by phone through the operations centre at +358 2 621 1500.
Rescue departments in the Western Finland cooperation area will monitor the use of fireworks during the weekend. In recent years, fireworks have caused property damage and disturbance incidents. Following the celebrations, the authorities will assess whether the current exemption allowing private fireworks use during Venetsialaiset can be continued in the coming years.

Fireworks and open fires must be used in a manner that does not pose a risk of injury or property damage.

- Do not give fireworks to minors.
- Use fireworks on beaches and near waterways.
- Always wear safety glasses, whether you are setting off fireworks or watching them.
- Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.
- Ensure that fireworks debris has completely cooled before disposal.
