The future plan was made together

The new city strategy for Rauma was approved by the City Council on 27 April 2026. The strategy is a clear plan outlining what Rauma aims to be like by 2035. Turning the strategy into action requires all of us.

The future plan was developed in cooperation with the citizens, businesses, staff and councillors, and it must be implemented together, says Mayor Esko Poikela in the strategy’s opening pages.

Rauma’s City strategy has been updated

The strategy has three key objectives: a vibrant, attractive and influential Rauma. The strategy focuses on defining development priorities and concrete objectives and measures. The views of residents and other stakeholders have been gathered through a strategy survey.

Rauma aims to be both a strong and influential city as well as a natural and captivating one. We will continue to think bigger, implement more simply and take responsibility.

The strategy was updated in spring 2026 and it places particular emphasis on developing business activities, ensuring smooth everyday life and housing, as well as culture, events and the city’s attractiveness.

Strong and Impressive

Rauma is thriving and vibrant. Enabled by a strong economy, we develop high-quality services, sustainable infrastructure and a smooth everyday life. We are an active and strong influencer in both national and international networks. We are also strengthening as a region.

Rauma is an attractive location for all kinds of business activity and a home for both work and those who do it. Within our size category, we are the most business-friendly city in Finland, and our services are smooth – Rauma exceeds expectations. Children benefit from high-quality early childhood education and schooling. Rauma is also made attractive by a smooth everyday life, a wide range of housing and job opportunities, and abundant sports and leisure activities.

Charming Rauma

Rauma offers an excellent visitor experience. The city centre is a functional and vibrant meeting place for people of all ages, where the maritime setting has been put to good use. Rauma is known for its enchanting world heritage sites, experiential events, beautiful surroundings and bold cultural offering. The city’s attractiveness is strengthened by renewing the event offering and by developing the city centre with new, family-oriented attractions that will draw visitors from around the world.

A strong sense of community and pride in the hometown form the foundation of Rauma identity. At its best, being from Rauma means genuine encounters between people, caring for others, tolerance and bold actions. Rauma brings together traditions, Old Rauma and the strengths of modern industry into one success story that is shared in Finland and around the world.

Towards success through three objectives

The strategic objectives have been clarified into three themes. Rauma aims to be vibrant, attractive and influential. To strengthen vitality, the conditions for business activity are improved and the availability of skilled workforce is ensured. To increase retention, the wellbeing and satisfaction of residents, businesses and communities in Rauma are enhanced. Attractiveness is strengthened, for example, by building a strong Rauma brand and by creating conditions for year-round events.

There are seven strategic objectives, and in addition, six key projects have been defined.

Value-Based Policies

The City has values-based operating principles that are applied in everyday activities, service delivery and development. They describe our culture and the way we operate.

Thinking bigger

We are bold to see opportunities and places for growth and success. We will foster an innovative and renewing culture of innovation and inclusion. We collaborate across borders and think bigger. We look beyond and are open to new things.

We make things simpler

We work and serve in the easiest and smoothest way possible, with the customer in mind. We communicate actively and clearly and make it easy for you to work with us.

We take responsibility

We look after our own wellbeing and that of our fellow citizens, businesses and the economy of the region. We care for nature and the environment and create sustainable and responsible practices. We promote equality, tolerance and security through our activities. We take responsibility in decision-making, planning and development and in the day-to-day delivery of services.
