Participatory budgeting is being implemented for the sixth time
In 2026, the City of Rauma will be implementing participatory budgeting for the sixth time. This year, residents were invited to submit ideas that promote a sense of community, well-being, and meaningful interactions among Rauma residents of different ages and backgrounds. The total budget for participatory budgeting is 50,000 euros, and the maximum cost for a single project is 25,000 euros. Ideas were collected until February 27.
Nine ideas submitted by Rauma residents have advanced to the voting round!

Implementing Recycling Week
To be held during Sustainable Development Week, September 21–27, 2026. Recycling Week will combine various locations, themes, and activities. Several existing organizations will be involved. Estimated cost: €11,000.
Outdoor movie screenings in the park
Free outdoor theater screenings for children, families, and young people. Held over three days in the summer, e.g., every Wednesday, first for children and then for the whole family/young people. Venue: e.g., Parpansali Park. Estimated cost: €9,000.
Sing-along evenings at Kanalinmutka
Free sing-along evenings held on the terrace of Rauma Theater on Tuesday evenings. 7 events in June–July, led by a professional host. Estimated cost: €5,000.
Skate park at the ice park
Establishment of a skate park in the Ice Park adjacent to Rauma Central Park for the summer season. A low-threshold sports facility to be equipped with 3–4 movable elements. Estimated cost: €25,000
A photographic frame and meeting place in the city center named “Lace Heart”
A sculptural photo frame named “Lace Heart” which people can also sit inside. A gathering spot will be created around it in the city center. The initial proposed location is Kauppatori. Estimated cost: €14,000.
Picnic Area in the Rauma Maritime Museum
Create an open meeting and picnic spot equipped with a picnic table on Merimuseonmäki. This would raise awareness of the importance of urban biodiversity, offer residents experiences of nature close to home, and facilitate informal gatherings. Estimated cost: €20,000.
Raumanjoki River and Canal Conquest Event
Organize the Raumanjoki Canal Conquest event, where Rauma residents and tourists come to row, paddle, or stand-up paddleboard on the canal. Participants should bring their own equipment, and additional equipment can be rented. Estimated cost: €10,000
Outdoor swing on the shore of Lake Äyhönjärvi
Order an additional swing for the city-side shore of Lake Äyhönjärvi. Currently, there is one swing at the southern end, which is heavily used. Cost estimate: €10,000
Outdoor fitness equipment, leg press for Otanlahti
Improve the outdoor fitness area on the Otanlahti shore by purchasing a leg press. Cost estimate: €12,000.
Schedule
- Ideation phase: 3 Feb – 27 Feb
- Co‑creation phase: 2 Mar – 18 Mar. Submitted ideas will be reviewed and further developed together with experts in preparation for the voting phase.
- Voting phase: 23 Mar – 10 Apr. Voting opens, and residents as well as other interested participants can vote for their favourite idea.
- Results will be published at the end of April, after which planning for the selected implementations will begin
Rules and Evaluation Criteria
All ideas submitted by residents will be reviewed, and their feasibility, compliance with guidelines, and costs will be assessed. You may submit an idea even if you are not sure whether all criteria are met.

- Upgrading and maintenance of the mountain bike trail in the Pyytjärvi area
- Addition of an outdoor fitness facility at the playground on Yhdystie in Kodisjoki
- Extension of the Pyynpää outdoor sports area – addition of frisbee golf baskets and a basketball court near Pyynpää school
- Replacement of aerobic equipment in the Lappi gym
- Purchase of rowing boats for free use in the canal
- Implementation of a lace-wing mural near the town centre or Rauma’s attractions

- Livening up the yard of Hj. Nortamo school with benches, frisbee baskets and chin-up bars
