Abandoned boats
The city of Rauma has seven marinas and six seasonal storage facilities.
From time to time, boats that have been abandoned or do not have valid permits accumulate at the marinas and seasonal storage facilities.

The City of Rauma Marina Management Unit has moved on a case-by-case basis
boats to the city’s storage area if the boat has been parked in violation of the boat storage instructions. Such situations have included when a boat has been docked on a berth (boat space) rented by another person, the boat has been parked in the marina area without permission, or the boat has been tied up improperly and has caused damage to either neighbouring boats or marina equipment, or the boat has otherwise interfered with the operations of the marina.
Prior to moving boats to the city’s storage area, the boats are first posted with removal notices and attempts are made to contact the boat owners. If the owners are not reached or the boats are otherwise not retrieved from the marina, the Marina Management Unit is forced to move the boats to the storage area.
The City of Rauma has adopted the following policy for dealing with abandoned boats:
- The owners of the abandoned boats are identifieed by various methods, mainly the registration number of the boat and other available ways.
- If the owner cannot be identified, the city will advertise the abandoned boats in the local newspaper and on the city’s website. The notice will indicate the action the city will take if the owner fails to take timely action to remove the boat from the city’s storage area.
- The notice will give the boat owner enough time to take steps to remove the boat from the storage area before the city takes action to dispose of the boats classified as waste. Enough time in this context may be considered to be four months from the date of the notice in the newspaper and on the city’s website.
- If, after this period, the owner has still not fulfilled their obligations with regard to their boat, the city’s Marina Management Unit will take measures to dispose of the boat(s) in an appropriate manner and by an authorised waste collector.
- If the boat is handed over to the owner, the owner will be charged a fee based on the actual costs involved in moving the boat.
For more information on the disposal of boats, see the decision of the Technical Committee (247 § 28.11.2023).
Boats to be Disposed of in the Storage Area
There are currently 6 abandoned boats stored in the fenced area of the City of Rauma’s Northwest Road winter storage facility. The boats that have been moved to the fenced area have been abandoned by their owners at the marina and have been stored in violation of the marina guidelines.
Boat owners have 4 months to remove the boat from the site. This period starts from the date of publication of the notice (27.3.2025).
The boat will only be handed over to the owner and will be charged a fee in line with the cost of removing the boat.
If the owner does not collect the boat within four months, it will be delivered for disposal in July 2025.
