Christmas in Lace Town is built on responsibility and collaboration
News

Responsibility, sustainability and community have all been taken into account in the planning and implementation of Christmas in Lace Town events. Residents and visitors can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, enchanting lights and numerous seasonal events all the way until 6 January.
– In Rauma, the development of tourism is guided by responsibility and the principles of sustainable tourism. The impacts and growth of tourism are closely monitored, especially in event locations in Old Rauma. Our goal is to safeguard the carrying capacity and residential comfort of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, explains Christmas Coordinator Krista Mård.
The city’s Christmas lights use energy-efficient LED technology. The operating hours of the lights and light installations take nearby residents into account. The new lighting along Kanalinranta was also discussed with the neighbouring housing cooperative.
– We want to minimise any possible light and noise disturbances and ensure residents’ comfort at the heart of the events, Mård adds.
Gyyt Makes It Easy to Reach Events
This year, visitors to Christmas events are encouraged to hop on Gyyt, the local bus service. Drivers are also advised to park on the outskirts of the city centre and walk to the event locations.
– Gyyt buses will feature campaign-themed exterior ads throughout the end of the year. The Christmas Gyyt campaign will also be visible on social media, says Mård.
Christmas Is a Joint Effort
Lace City’s Christmas highlights Rauma’s local skills, traditions and the joy of doing things together.
In Old Rauma, you can once again admire the advent calendar windows organized by the Old Rauma Association. The Joulevangeeljum musical play is staged again with the help of hundreds of volunteers, and students are involved in creating Tammela’s Elf Land, which again features a recycling point for Christmas decorations.

– The magic and atmosphere of Christmas are created together. Collaboration among the people of Rauma is the driving and sustainability-enhancing force behind Christmas. Most attractions are free of charge so that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy the events and activities, Mård explains.
