Construction of the Papinpelto Youth Centre and Workshop Is Progressing as Planned
News

Construction of the Papinpelto youth centre and workshop is proceeding on schedule. Building works began in December 2025, and the project is expected to be completed in spring 2027. Currently, groundworks, underground building services installations and foundation works are underway at the site.
Drainage systems and stormwater sewers have been installed around the building, and the foundations have been cast. The installation of the base elements is in progress and is expected to be completed during the current week.
– Construction is progressing at a good pace. By mid‑April, the building will already start to rise visibly as the first wall elements are installed, says Juuso Laiho, Site Manager at Hartela.
At the moment, approximately ten people are working on the construction site.
The Papinpelto youth centre and workshop is being built near the intersection of Itsenäisyydenkatu and Teinitie. The approximately 1,600 gross square metre complex will include music and kitchen facilities for the youth centre, media and editing facilities for the workshop, as well as staff workspaces. In addition, the building will feature wood and metal workshops, a painting room and a hot work facility.
– One of the exceptional youth centres in Finland is being built in the Papinpelto area. This is a truly unique project in the field of youth facilities, says Leena Joki‑Korpela, Architect for the City of Rauma.
Hartela is responsible for the project as the design‑and‑build (KVR) contractor, and the principal designer is Renell Käppi Architects Ltd.
