The Urban Environment Committee of the City of Rauma will decide on the contractor for the first phase of earthworks for the new Äijänsuo football stadium. Maarakennus Jalonen Oy is proposed as the contractor. The committee will consider the matter at its meeting on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

Tenders for the contract were invited in spring 2026, and five bids were received by the deadline. The selection criterion was overall economic advantage, i.e. the lowest comparison price. The chosen contractor, Maarakennus Jalonen Oy, submitted a bid of approximately 1.96 million euros.

– Äijänsuo stadium project is part of the City of Rauma’s long-term development of sports and physical activity facilities. We aim to support an active and healthy everyday life and to provide high-quality, functional facilities for both recreational users and competitive sports. The project will strengthen opportunities to host more diverse sporting events in Rauma, says Kimmo Salminen, Facility Services Manager.

The contract includes the first phase earthworks for the new stadium, as well as associated excavation and HVACSE works (heating, water, ventilation, automation and electrical systems). In addition, the contract includes an option to demolish the artificial turf, rubber structures and heating system of the current football stadium. The intention is to dismantle the old field once the new one is completed in summer 2027.

–The works are scheduled to begin in August, and changes will become visible in late summer in the area around the Äijänsuo sports halls. The eastern side of the indoor training hall, as well as the parking area between the training hall and the ice arena, will be taken out of use and converted into a construction site. In addition, the pedestrian and cycling route on the eastern side of the training hall will be relocated to the western side, Salminen says.

Construction of the stadium is expected to continue from August 2026 to June 2027, after which the surface structures of the current football field will be dismantled. The earthworks for the new field are scheduled to be completed by 31 March 2027. The deadline for the possible removal of the artificial turf is 31 May 2027.
