Rauma Adult Education Centre Offers More Than 500 Courses – Registration Opens on 17 August 2026

The Rauma Adult Education Centre will celebrate an anniversary academic year in autumn 2026. The centre’s first courses were held on 15 October 1916, meaning it has been part of the lives of Rauma residents for 110 years. Today, its extensive programme includes more than 500 different courses. Registration opens on Monday, 17 August, at 9:00 a.m. The study guide will be delivered to households in Rauma during week 33.
Most courses are held at Karin kampus. Due to the nature of its activities, courses are also organised across Rauma at nearly 30 different locations, including the Old Institute building and various schools.
The course selection features familiar subjects such as Spanish language studies, music instruction, painting and bobbin lace-making. In addition, many new courses will be introduced this year.
– Among the new additions are a Korean language course, a course on theatre costumes and props, a crime fiction writing course, and much more, says Principal Mira Ellmén.
Guest Lecturers Include Jorma Uotinen, Krista Kosonen and Keijo Leppänen
A wide range of lectures on diverse topics will also be available this autumn. Special highlights include guest lectures by Jorma Uotinen, Krista Kosonen and Keijo Leppänen.
In early September, Uotinen will speak about defending the arts and the importance of culture for quality of life. Kosonen will visit in October with a lecture titled Creativity Requires Courage (Luovuus vaatii rohkeutta). In November, Leppänen will discuss effective public speaking and pose the question: Middle-Aged Social Media User, Where Are You? (Keski-ikäinen somettaja, missä olet?).
Other lecture topics include reflections on health and social services through historical newspaper clippings, the renovation of Rauma Old Town Hall and its new exhibitions, as well as continuing powers of attorney.
Study Guide Delivered to All Households in Rauma – Also Available Online
The Rauma Adult Education Centre Study Guide 2026–2027 will be distributed to all households in Rauma during week 33. In Eurajoki, the guide can be collected from the library, municipal office and tourist information centre. In Rauma, printed copies are available, if needed, from the Main Library, Lappi Library, Service Point Pyyrman, City Hall Reception and the Adult Education Centre office at Karin kampus.

Course registration begins on Monday, 17 August, at 9:00 a.m. Registration can be completed online, by phone or at the Adult Education Centre office. Registration remains open as long as places are available. Most teaching begins on Monday, 7 September.
Financial Support Available for Certain Groups
Courses at the Adult Education Centre are subject to a fee. Certain groups, such as pensioners and immigrants, may be eligible for financial assistance covering course fees for selected courses. Unemployed persons may participate free of charge in one course of their choice.
