Rescue services, emergency care, and the police remind everyone that by taking care of ourselves and each other, we can ensure a safe New Year’s celebration for all.

Careless or thoughtless handling of fireworks causes eye injuries and burns every year. The most important thing is to wear protective goggles and follow the instructions for use.

Fireworks are permitted without a separate license on December 31, 2025, from 6:00 PM to January 1, 2026, at 2:00 AM. The use of fireworks is prohibited in Old Rauma and the harbor area.

How to Use Fireworks Safely:

  • Buy only approved products with clear instructions.
  • Store in a dry place and open packages only at the firing site.
  • Do not use under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and do not hand fireworks to intoxicated individuals.
  • Use fireworks only during the designated firing period.
  • Wear protective goggles – both shooters and spectators.
  • Choose an open and safe area, far from buildings, car shelters, and other people.
  • Read the instructions in advance and follow them exactly.
  • Secure fireworks firmly; never hold them in your hands.
  • Light only one at a time and immediately move at least 10 meters away.
  • Never try to relight a product that failed to ignite. Wait 10–15 minutes and soak it with water.
  • Clean up firework debris the next day, only after it has cooled completely – debris can smolder for hours after firing and pose a serious fire hazard.

The police will actively monitor New Year’s celebrations and intervene promptly in cases of firework misuse, any disruptive behavior, and especially underage substance use.

Accidents Increase During Festivities

Accidents and medical emergencies occur more frequently during large gatherings. It is important to ensure, for example, that walkways are sanded, clothing is weather-appropriate, and no one is left alone outside.

The rescue services, emergency care, and police of the wellbeing regions of Southwest Finland, Satakunta, and Ostrobothnia are campaigning together for a safe New Year’s Eve.

The City of Rauma will not organize fireworks. The Kaaro Village Association’s fireworks display can be viewed on Wednesday, December 31, at 6:00 PM at Kaaro School, Sorkanmaantie 50.
