The City of Rauma Has Committed to an Energy Efficiency Agreement Until 2035
News

The City of Rauma has joined the municipal energy efficiency agreement for the period 2026–2035. With this agreement, the city commits to improving the energy efficiency of its operations by the end of 2035. Rauma originally joined the agreement for the 2017–2025 period.
– With this agreement, we will continue the long-term development of our energy efficiency and actively monitor the achievement of our goals, says Matti Lehtonen, Energy and Automation Specialist.
The goal of the 2017 agreement was to reduce the city’s energy consumption by approximately 5,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) by 2025, compared to the 2015 level. However, Rauma exceeded this target by reducing its consumption by more than 10,000 MWh.
– By 2035, the city’s indicative total energy saving target is 16 percent, which corresponds to approximately 12,500 MWh from the current consumption of around 78,500 MWh, Lehtonen adds.
What is an energy efficiency agreement?
Energy efficiency agreements are voluntary commitments between the Finnish government and various sectors including industry, energy and service providers, real estate, and the public sector to promote more efficient energy use. Over the decades, these agreements have become a well-established part of Finland’s energy policy.
The agreements are widely supported by the government and industry stakeholders. Participants include the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the Ministry of the Environment, the Energy Authority, the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), and the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities.
