The City of Rauma Prepares a Planning Reservation for Steerprop Oy Near the Port

The City of Rauma is preparing to grant a planning reservation of approximately 2.2 hectares to Steerprop Oy for an area located in the immediate vicinity of the Port of Rauma. The purpose of the planning reservation is to enable the company to carry out a more detailed assessment of the area’s suitability for the construction of new production and office facilities.
The planning reservation supports both Steerprop’s growth plans and the city’s ongoing local detailed plan process, which concerns an undeveloped area adjacent to the port. Although the zoning amendment was originally initiated independently of the company’s project, Steerprop’s expansion plans bring new relevance and concrete development potential to the area.
– We in Rauma have been pleased to follow the strengthening order book of Steerprop Oy and the company’s success in highly competitive markets that require strong expertise. Through its strategic decisions and choices, the City of Rauma is committed to developing the operating environment and conditions for companies in the maritime industry in particular. It is therefore great that through this planning reservation we can respond directly to Steerprop’s growth needs, says City Mayor Esko Poikela.
– A planning reservation is a well-established and effective way for the city to promote area development in cooperation with companies. In this case, the aim is both to enable the company’s growth and to assess the appropriate use of the area as part of the zoning process, says Head of Land Use, Ari-Pekka Asikainen.
The planning reservation allows the company to carry out the studies and surveys required for the project in cooperation with the city. Any potential transfer of the plot will be decided at a later stage after the local detailed plan has been approved.

The planning reservation provides us with good conditions to assess our growth opportunities and to advance our long-term investment plans in Rauma.
