Towards a More Active Everyday Life – Free Physical Activity Counselling for Working-Age Adults Launches in Rauma
News

This autumn, Rauma will introduce free group-based physical activity counselling to support working-age adults in becoming more active and improving their well-being. The programme will be presented at the Wellbeing Testing Event on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at Karin kampus.
At the beginning of 2026, the City of Rauma’s Sports Services launched a new physical activity counselling model that combines guided counselling groups with physical activity trial groups. The aim is to support the health and well-being of less active working-age adults and to provide easily accessible services. The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
– Increasing physical activity is not easy for everyone, and each person faces different challenges. Through physical activity counselling, we address the factors that prevent people from being active and help participants find ways to incorporate more movement into their everyday lives. Even a small amount of encouragement can be the first step towards a more active lifestyle, says Project Coordinator Valtteri Virtanen.
Everyday physical activity can improve energy levels, enhance functional capacity and promote a greater sense of well-being. Regular exercise also supports overall health and helps people manage the demands of daily life.
What Does Physical Activity Counselling Offer?
The service helps participants build lasting exercise habits and incorporate more activity into their everyday routines. It includes low-threshold opportunities to try different beginner-friendly forms of exercise. Participants can also join guided groups where they set concrete goals and create plans for increasing physical activity in their daily lives.
The first groups will begin in September 2026. Registration is available by emailing Valtteri Virtanen at valtteri.virtanen@rauma.fi.

The counselling service is part of a development project run by the City of Rauma’s Sports Services. The project’s aim is to improve the accessibility of physical activity counselling and strengthen the service pathway. Cooperation takes place with the Wellbeing Services County of Satakunta, various associations, occupational health services, the Liikkujan apteekki network and the City of Rauma’s Youth Services.
– When it is easy to find and access physical activity counselling services, we can reach people at an early stage and support their well-being through preventive measures, Virtanen says.
The goal is to establish the physical activity counselling and activity trial groups launched this autumn as a permanent part of the City of Rauma’s Sports Services after the project period ends.
The programme will also be presented at the Wellbeing Testing Event on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at Karin kampus. Visitors can assess their current well-being and learn more about the activities starting in the autumn. Further information and registration instructions can be found in the Rauma Event Calendar (in Finnish).
