The Uotila self-service library will open its doors on 26 January. The library is located within the Uotilanrinne Multipurpose Center at Uotilan vanhatie 68. The self-service library is open Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For the time being, staff will be available on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until customers become familiar with the new library and its services.

– This wonderful, brand-new library was designed and built entirely as a self-service library, and there is no other like it in Rauma. The Uotila Library has something for everyone – children, young people, and adults alike. There are even a few children’s board games available for loan, says librarian Maria Salmi.

The bright 100-square-meter library has no separate sections; instead, books are arranged on shelves according to age groups. In addition to borrowing and returning materials, customers can pick up reservations. Visitors can also read, do homework, use computers, and access digital newspapers through the ePress-service during self-service hours.

– The self-service model allows for extended opening hours. Lappi Library will also introduce self-service hours on 26 January, Salmi says.

Bring your library card and PIN code to the shoe-free library

The entrance to the library is located on the right side of the building, as seen from the Uotilan vanhatie. The entire Uotilanrinne Multipurpose Center is a shoe-free zone, and library visitors must also leave their shoes in the entrance hall.

Salmi reminds visitors that they must have their library card and PIN code with them when entering the library. During self-service hours, the barcode on the card must be scanned at both the outer and inner doors, after which the PIN code is entered to unlock the doors. Each customer logs in using their own library card.

– No other persons may enter the library using the same login. The exception is children under 15 accompanied by an adult, in which case the adult’s login is sufficient. However, if a customer allows other people to enter using their card, they are responsible for any actions that occur on the library premises, Salmi notes.

The library has a self-service machine for borrowing and returning items. A library card and PIN code are also required to use the machine.

A forgotten PIN code can be replaced at any library in Satakunta. Please bring your library card and photo ID. The PIN code can also be changed using strong authentication in the online library at satakirjastot.finna.fi.

The library bus will only visit the daycare center in the future

The library bus will continue to visit Uotila on Mondays and Thursdays during January. The visits will end once the self-service library is fully operational.

– The library bus will continue to visit the Uotila daycare center once a month, as needed and upon request, Salmi adds.

The Uotilanrinne Multipurpose Center houses grades 1–6, six early childhood education groups, a gym, and the self-service library. The project’s cost estimate was 24.3 million euros. The school and daycare center began operating at the start of the spring semester after Epiphany, and the sports facilities opened for evening users on 12 January.
