Preventive substance abuse work refers to activities aimed at preventing and reducing substance abuse, as well as the health, social, and societal harms it causes. The goal of this work is to reduce the demand for, availability of, and supply of substances.

Preventive substance abuse work focuses on factors that contribute to various forms of addiction, such as the misuse of alcohol, drugs, and medications. It also includes the prevention and cessation of tobacco, snuff, and other substances used for intoxication. Gambling addiction and other behavioral addictions also fall within the scope of this work.

Practical Implementation

Preventive substance abuse work is implemented in practice by various municipal departments. The parish, entrepreneurs, the police, and organizations also play a key role in organizing and carrying out preventive substance abuse efforts.
