Rauma’s Summer Entrepreneur Programme in Lace City attracted strong interest this spring, with a total of 36 young people from Rauma applying. 30 summer entrepreneurs were selected for the programme.

This summer, the business ideas of young people aged 16–20 focus particularly on everyday services, such as household tasks and yard work. Young entrepreneurs will be seen working in residents’ yards, including lawn mowing, as well as at local summer locations. The summer entrepreneurs run the Kipparinpuisto summer café and the Männistö kiosk, and also take care of the cleanliness and functionality of the Kortela rug washing site.

– Of the applicants, as many as 24 were first-time summer entrepreneurs. In addition, 12 young people who had previously participated in the programme applied again, and six of them were selected for the coming summer. The growing interest reflects young people’s enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and the attractiveness of the programme, says Business Development Specialist Kaisa Kalliovuo.

Summer Entrepreneurship Begins with Mentoring Weeks

The summer entrepreneurs will meet for the first time on 28 April 2026, when the mentoring weeks and preparations for summer entrepreneurship begin. The mentoring period offers practical learning on the basics of running a business, everyday life as an entrepreneur and building networks.

– The Summer Entrepreneur Programme gives young people a safe opportunity to try out their business ideas and gain valuable work experience. An incredibly talented and courageous group of young people is taking part. Interest in the programme has been very encouraging, and I believe the summer will be unforgettable, Kalliovuo says.

Young people selected for the programme receive a city-funded summer entrepreneurship grant of 480 euros. At the end of the summer, participants are awarded a certificate from the Opintokeskus Sivis, which equals seven study credits.

The Summer Entrepreneur Programme has been running in Rauma since 2018, and over the years more than 100 young people from Rauma have participated. The programme is implemented in cooperation with the South Satakunta 4H Association and Rauman Yrittäjät Entrepreneurs’ Association.
