The linden trees on Valtakatu in the fall.

Rauma’s city centre will take on a new festive look as new Christmas lights are installed on the trees along Valtakatu throughout November. Vertek Oy will begin test installations of the lights on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026.

The lights will be installed using aerial work platforms, and one lane of Valtakatu will be closed intermittently. The pedestrian and bicycle path will also be temporarily closed, and some parking spaces will be unavailable. People in the area are advised to exercise extra caution near the installation sites and take note of the temporary traffic arrangements.

Christmas lights will be installed on a total of 47 linden trees on both sides of Valtakatu. The illuminated area will extend from Rauma City Hall to the intersection of Valtakatu and Satamakatu.

An arborist will act as a consultant during the installation to ensure that the lighting does not damage the trees. Once the test installations are complete, Vertek Oy will continue hanging the Christmas lights. The work is expected to take approximately two and a half weeks.

– Warm white string lights will be installed in the tree canopies to highlight the trees’ natural shapes. The lighting will also create a more cohesive look between Old Rauma and the ice park in Rauma Central Park, says Tourism Manager Irene Villanen.

The lights will be carefully attached to the branches and crowns so that they blend into the surroundings as unobtrusively as possible. The goal is to leave the lights on the trees for several years without compromising their health.

The Christmas lights will remain in place after the holiday season ends. They are designed to last two to three years on the trees, allowing the investment costs to be spread over multiple years.
