Independence Day will be celebrated in Rauma on Saturday, December 6, with free events open to everyone. The program will take place in the city center as well as in Kodisjoki and Lappi.

– We hope people of all ages will join these open events. Independence Day is a celebration for all of us Finns, says Museum and Culture Director Risto Kupari.

The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. with the Scouts raising the flag in front of the Poselli. This will be followed by wreath-laying ceremonies at the red memorial in the Old Rauma Cemetery at 9.15 a.m. and at the white memorial in Tarvonsaari Park at 9.30 a.m.

A church service will be held at the Holy Cross Church in Rauma at 10 a.m. After the service, at 11.30 a.m., there will be a program and wreath-laying at the heroes’ graves in the Old Rauma Cemetery.

The service at Kodisjoki Church will also begin at 10 a.m., followed by wreath-laying at the heroes’ graves and a celebration at Kodistupa (Kodisjoentie 1453 A).

The service at Lappi Church will start at 10 a.m. After the service, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the heroes’ graves and a celebration at the Lappi Parish Hall (Hiedastentie 6).

The main Independence Day celebration will take place at 1 p.m. in Rauma Hall (Satamakatu 26), with coffee served from 12 noon. The program includes community singing, music and dance performances, and the presentation of city awards. Jarmo Tanhua will deliver the celebratory speech. The event is open to all residents of Rauma and the surrounding area.

The Scouts’ torchlight procession will begin at 4 p.m. from the Lappi Scout House and follow the route Tarhakuja–Sahamäentie–Kirkkotie to the heroes’ graves at Lappi Church.
