At its meeting on 2 February 2026, the Rauma City Board decided that the City of Rauma will allocate €20,000 for the purchase of aid supplies to be delivered to Ukraine. The funding will be used primarily for acquiring medical equipment and supplies needed for healthcare in Ukraine. The project is coordinated in cooperation with the City of Pori.

Before today the City of Rauma has allocated a total of €80,000 in crisis aid to Ukraine to help the victims of Russia’s war of aggression. Rauma’s financial contributions have been channelled through well-known and trusted international aid organizations. In 2022, the City Board granted a total of €50,000 in aid, of which €25,000 was directed through the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and €25,000 through UNICEF. In addition, the City of Rauma supported Ukraine in spring 2022 with €30,000 through Save the Children Finland’s emergency fund.

“The situation in Ukraine remains highly critical, and the country is facing shortages of materials needed both for maintaining and repairing its energy infrastructure and for medical care, including equipment, supplies, and medicines. The City of Rauma wants to support the Ukrainian people suffering in the midst of winter,” says Mayor Esko Poikela.

The Embassy of Ukraine has approached major Finnish cities with a direct request for assistance. In Satakunta, the request has been addressed to the City of Pori, which has taken on the coordination of a joint aid initiative involving municipalities throughout the Satakunta region. In addition to providing coordination support, Pori has granted €0.50 per resident to aid Ukraine. The City of Pori, together with the Embassy of Ukraine, will also handle the logistics of the aid shipment. Each municipality will decide independently on the allocation of its own support.
