Changes are proposed to the routes and schedules of Rauman Gyyt, the City of Rauma’s public transit system, for the 2026 summer schedule period as well as the 2026–2027 fall and winter schedule periods.

The aim of the changes is to improve daily commuting and school travel connections, streamline the service, and allocate resources as widely as possible to serve residents.

The Technical Committee will discuss the matter at its meeting on Tuesday, March 31.

– A key need for change relates to the school network changes taking place in the fall of 2026, which is why public transit routes and schedules are being adjusted to serve new school commute needs. In addition, the route and schedule review has identified gaps, particularly in the accessibility of workplaces and services, which will be addressed by developing the route network, says public transit planner Mikael Saive.

Key changes:

  • Sunday service on the Gyytin route will end. The aim of this change is to strengthen basic public transit services on weekdays and Saturdays and to allocate resources to a broader user group.
  • Changes related to the school network reform: The routes and schedule structure of lines 80/80K/90 will be revised so that connections serve students transferring to schools in Unaja and Uotila.
  • Routes 1–5 will operate earlier on weekdays. Routes will begin at 6 a.m. on weekdays. This change will particularly improve options for early commutes and transfer connections.
  • Weekday evening service will be streamlined by standardizing operating hours: Routes 1 and 3 will end approximately one hour earlier, and Routes 2 and 5 will run until approximately 8:15–8:25 p.m. By bringing forward operating hours on winter weekdays and standardizing evening service, the aim is to improve public transit travel chains and commuter traffic, as well as to meet the needs of passenger rail service launching in spring 2027.
  • Route 5: Route change. The route will now run via Kairakatu, which improves accessibility to the area and enables new travel connections.
  • Line 5S will be expanded. The line will be expanded with a variant supporting healthcare service connections, ensuring access to services from the Savila direction. Healthcare services will also continue to be accessible via Line 2 and, to some extent, other lines via a walking segment.
  • Route 2: Route change. The Aittakarinkatu–Alfredinkatu–Sahankatu–Nortamonkatu loop will be removed from the route.

Route descriptions and detailed schedules will be published later in a separate schedule publication.

Free travel is proposed for the period June 1–August 9, 2026

According to the proposal, Gyyt would be completely free of charge during the summer schedule period from June 1 to August 9, 2026.

The goal of the free-of-charge campaign is to facilitate travel during the summer season, lower the barrier to using public transportation, and promote sustainable mobility. In previous years, the free-of-charge period has increased the use of public transportation, particularly during June and July.
