Rauma’s public transport Gyyt sets another passenger record during free travel campaign

Rauma’s public transport service Gyyt once again attracted a large number of users during its summer campaign. Between June and July, a total of 65,981 journeys were made on Gyyt, exceeding the figure recorded during last year’s fare-free campaign, when just under 60,000 journeys were made.
For several years, the City of Rauma has encouraged residents to use public transport through fare-free summer campaigns. This year, Gyyt’s free summer campaign was extended to cover the entire summer timetable period, with all routes operating free of charge from 1 June to 9 August 2026.
– Overall, the summer went as expected for Gyyt, and feedback on the fare-free service was largely positive. Connections serving the city centre, Merirauma, Kortela and other key areas were particularly well used, says Mikael Saive, Public Transport Planner.
The most popular route by far was Route 1, operating between Merirauma and Lähdepelto, which recorded a total of 31,006 journeys during the summer. Routes 3 (Uusilahti-Kortela) and 2 (Savila-Sinisaari-Savila) also attracted substantial passenger numbers.
– The increase in passenger numbers shows that fare-free travel lowers the threshold for trying public transport and encourages people to use it for leisure trips as well, Saive adds.
The use of public transport also supports the city’s goal of providing smooth and accessible mobility options across Rauma. The passenger figures indicate that Gyyt has firmly established itself as an integral part of everyday life and summer travel for Rauma residents.
