Rauma’s Tech Summer Trainee Campaign celebrates its tenth anniversary
Uutinen

The application period for Rauma’s tech summer trainee campaign begins on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. The campaign offers architecture and engineering students the opportunity to receive housing benefits and a bus pass or bicycle when they find employment with companies located in Rauma for the summer. Applications will be accepted until March 8, 2026.
The campaign originated from the need of the city’s major technology companies to recruit skilled workers from outside Rauma, as there are no technical university programs or students available locally.
“The summer tech campaign is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Following a pilot project with Rauma Marine Constructions in 2016, the first actual campaign was launched in 2017, involving 10 students. In recent years, 30 students per year have benefited from the campaign, says business expert Heikki M. Nurmi.
This year, around twenty companies from the Rauma area are participating in the campaign. Rauma Marine Constructions, or RMC, has been involved in every year of the campaign.
– Our goal is to get the best students in the field interested in shipbuilding at RMC in Rauma. Some of the summer interns come from other parts of Finland, so the opportunity to live locally is a significant factor in their decision to accept the job. The summer internship campaign successfully supports this, and the experiences have always been positive. Some of the summer interns also continue their career path at RMC after the internship period and, after completing their final thesis, find permanent employment in interesting shipbuilding positions, says RMC’s HRD Manager Mika Valtanen.
The campaign has also borne fruit. The results of the first years of the campaign were examined in 2020.
“More than 40 percent of the summer interns who participated in previous years were employed or completed their master’s thesis in Rauma,” says Nurmi.
