National Reflector Day (Heijastinpäivä) will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 1. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing reflectors and encourages people to stay visible in traffic during dark hours. In Rauma, sparkling activities and events will be held in celebration of the theme.
On Wednesday morning, reflectors will be hung on the metal fence near the service point Pyyrman on Valtakatu, as usual, for passers-by to take freely. You are also welcome to bring your own reflectors to the fence for free distribution throughout the week.
– On Reflector Day, youth workers will visit upper secondary schools to hand out reflectors in a spirit of goodwill. We’ll reward young people who wear reflectors correctly with a small sweet surprise. Youth Services is also involved in setting up the reflector fence on Valtakatu, says youth worker Ria-Leena Widqvist.
To honor the darker evenings, a Loistava Yökahvila (Night Café) will be held for young people on Friday, October 3, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Kuovi Youth Center. The café is open to 7th graders through 17-year-olds, while 6th graders are welcome from 6 PM to 8 PM. The evening includes relaxed socializing with youth workers and light refreshments.
Preschoolers will also receive reflectors on Reflector Day, continuing a tradition that began last year.
– Many preschool groups organize various activities during the fall to highlight the importance of reflectors in low-light conditions. Preschoolers are at an ideal age to learn about traffic safety and visibility. They can also remind their families at home about the importance of wearing reflectors, notes Pauliina Henriksson, Director of Early Childhood Education.
Rauma Main Library will organize a book exhibition in honor of Reflector Day, and visitors can borrow books related to the theme.
The tower of the city hall will be illuminated in blue on Reflector Day.
