Summer early childhood education booking procedures are changing for the coming summer
Uutinen

The City of Rauma is introducing new procedures for booking summer early childhood education and for handling unused bookings. Going forward, a fee equal to half of the child’s monthly fee will be charged for any summer early childhood education reservation period of at least five days that is not canceled or canceled late.
If the customer is not required to pay a customer fee for early childhood education, half of the minimum fee will be charged. Half of the minimum fee is 15 euros.
The goal of the change is to reduce unnecessary reservations, improve service planning, and ensure proper staffing levels.
– In the summer of 2025, a large number of unnecessary reservations were made for early childhood education. This led to a clear surplus of staff in the facilities on duty relative to the number of children present. For example, in July 2025, there were up to 50 fewer children in early childhood education each day than had been registered, says Early Childhood Education Director Pauliina Henriksson.
Guardians must cancel a reserved care slot no later than 10 calendar days before the start of the reserved time. Late cancellation or failure to cancel may result in a cancellation fee.
No fee is charged for short absences or absences due to illness.
Holiday notifications by May 10
Guardians must notify the center of absences lasting at least one week during the summer season (June 1–July 31, 2026) no later than May 10. A survey regarding summer absences will be published in the Päikky app at the end of April. If a child needs early childhood education, care times must be reported in Päikky after responding to the survey.
Early childhood education should not be booked just in case. If the need arises later, a spot will be arranged for the child at a summer on-call facility.
