Boats on the pier.

The City of Rauma will discontinue its seasonal boat storage service when the current lease period ends on 31 May 2026. Customers using the seasonal storage service must remove their boats from the storage areas by 14 June 2026 at the latest. More detailed instructions have been sent to customers by email.

When the seasonal storage service ends, the areas will be released for other uses. The city will redevelop and tidy the areas and improve their overall amenity. The Petäjäs area will be renovated and developed between 2026 and 2028, while the Komppi area will be leased to a private operator starting in late summer. The future use of the Kappelinsalmi and Luoteisväylä areas will be reassessed from a zoning perspective.

The decision to discontinue the service was made by the City Board of Rauma in 2025. The decision is based on a report prepared by Ramboll Finland Oy in spring 2025, which assessed the current condition of the city’s seasonal boat storage areas and their development potential.

– According to the report, continuing or developing the service is neither financially viable nor purposeful. Customer numbers have declined, and the costs of providing the seasonal storage service exceed the rental income, Operations Manager Pekka Yli-Kauhaluoma explains.
