Municipal Family Daycare

Family day care is early childhood education in the carer’s own home. There can be up to 4 children under school age at any one time, including the carer’s own children. There are 17 municipal family day care providers in Rauma.

The average working week of a family day care worker is 40 hours. The working hours of the carer are determined by the early childhood education hours of the children. The early childhood education and care hours are agreed in writing in a customer fee agreement before the start of early childhood education and care.

Private Family Daycare

A private family daycare provider is an entrepreneur who usually provides early childhood education in their own home. A group can consist of four children in full-time care and one child in part-time care, who are either of pre-school age or school age. The family daycare provider’s own children under school age are included in the group. Private family daycare is supervised by the authorities.

Municipal Supplement for Private Family Daycare

Private family daycare is supported by a municipal allowance. You can apply for private childcare allowance and municipal allowance from Kela.

In Rauma, the condition for receiving the municipal allowance is that:

• The child is in private family day care: in the family day care provider’s home or the family has hired a family day care provider at home.
• The child lives in Rauma.
• The child is cared for more than 25 hours per week.

Amount of the Municipal Supplement

Depending on the daycare center, the daycare fee is either the same as municipal early childhood education or 20 euros/month more than municipal early childhood education. The family will receive a written decision on the service voucher.

Municipal allowance for private family daycare

Since 1.1.2018, it has been possible to receive a sibling increase in the municipal allowance for private family daycare, which will be up to €157 per month starting 1.8.2024. The compensation paid to the service provider is proportional to the time the child is in early childhood education. The sibling increase is also granted to families whose under school age children are divided between private and municipal early childhood education.
