Maintenance of green areas
Park maintenance is the most visible and labor-intensive unit of Wihertoimi department. Its responsibilities include all tasks related to park upkeep – from lawn mowing and summer flowers to the care of trees and shrubs.

Maintenance of green areas
Wihertoimi is responsible for maintaining the city’s designated green areas, parks, and playgrounds, including their plantings, structures, furnishings, and equipment. The unit also takes care of monuments and statues.
The maintenance of green areas is based on the nationally applied Green Area Maintenance Classification (RAMS).
Bench program
For several years, Wihertoimi has implemented a Bench program, aimed at annually adding new benches and replacing old movable ones in urban areas with fixed benches. The program also strives to accommodate residents’ wishes, which can be submitted through the city’s feedback service.

Make your neighborhood more pleasant through voluntary work
Traditionally, active participants in volunteer clean-up efforts have included schools, organizations, clubs, and associations, but everyone is welcome to help make their surroundings more pleasant.
You can take part in voluntary clean-up activities on public land owned by the city, such as nearby forests, playgrounds, roadsides, and beaches. For example, you can tidy up the area by collecting litter, raking leaves, removing invasive species, or carrying out other tasks that enhance the comfort and appeal of green areas.
You can arrange volunteer activities with Wihertoimi and receive guidance on how to carry them out.
Urban meadows
Wihertoimi maintains around 20 urban meadows. These sites vary in size and origin and are located throughout the city. Some have been developed in collaboration with residents; for example, the snow strip at Ottilantie was established based on local requests. Constructed urban meadows in Rauma have been created since 2021.
The slope by the Maritime Museum is also used for urban grazing. The purpose of grazing is to diversify the vegetation, which has become overgrown in the area.
