The multi-purpose play structure in Rauma’s Central Park will reopen for children’s use on Friday, September 25, 2026. The safety of the structure has been enhanced this week in cooperation with the play equipment manufacturer. As a result, all playground equipment in the park is once again available for normal use. The opening celebration of the renewed Central Park will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The multi-purpose play structure in Central Park was taken out of use on September 14, 2026, and access to its highest parts and tube slide was restricted on September 15, 2026, as an immediate safety precaution to prevent the risk of falling. These measures were taken following a feedback submitted through the city’s feedback service.

This week, the playground equipment manufacturer installed additional handholds on the highest tower of the multi-purpose structure. The seams in the artificial turf have also been repaired.

– We are working with the playground equipment manufacturer to explore the possibility of making structural changes to the multi-purpose structure so that access to the highest tower could, in the future, be gained from the inside. Both the planning and potential implementation will take time, as the structure must continue to meet playground safety standards, says city gardener Mari Pohjalainen.

According to Pohjalainen, this tall multi-purpose play structure is designed to provide an appropriate level of challenge for climbing and is intended for older children. The structure and its surrounding surfaces comply with playground safety standards.

– Play areas cannot be made completely risk-free, and the purpose of the equipment is also to provide appropriate challenges for the development of children’s motor skills. Play equipment should be used safely, with consideration for other children playing nearby. Adults should not lift a child onto the equipment if the child cannot climb onto it independently, Pohjalainen says.
