Rauma has 18 municipal day care centers and 4 private service voucher daycare centers. Applications for municipal early childhood education are made using an electronic application form.
Private early childhood education complies with the Early Childhood Education Act and the criteria of the curriculum, as does municipal early childhood education. All private daycare centers in Rauma are service voucher daycare centers.

Rauman Pikkunorssi offers also preschool education.
Rauma Pikkunorssi opened in January 2021 on the campus of the University of Turku’s Rauma Teacher Education Department. The centre offers research-based early childhood education and preschool education, with a special emphasis on environmental education, arts, and practical skills. Learning takes place through hands-on activities and the versatile use of the learning environment. Close collaboration with the University of Turku is an integral part of the centre’s operations. Dedicated facilities are available for visual arts, crafts, and home economics projects, providing children with diverse opportunities for learning and creativity.

Private Daycare Centers
Service Voucher for Private Daycare
All private daycare centers in Rauma are service voucher daycare centers. In private day care, a service voucher is available, which is obtained from the City of Rauma.
- Ensure your eligibility by applying early enough, 2 weeks before the need in case of urgent employment, otherwise 4 months before the child starts at a private daycare center.
- The voucher is obtained separately for each child.
- Only families in Rauma can apply for a service voucher.
- There is no subjective right to a service voucher, so it is up to the city to decide whether or not to grant a service voucher.
- The service voucher is granted for a minimum period of one month.
How to get started
- The family applies for an early childhood education place in a private service voucher daycare center.
- Once the family has a place, they sign a written service contract with the service voucher daycare center.
- The family applies to the city for a service voucher using an online application form. The applicant logs in to the service with a bank or business ID.
- You must apply for the voucher at least 4 months before the start of care.
- Sudden employment or start of full-time studies: application must be made at least two weeks before the start of care.
Decision on the Value of the Service Voucher
Depending on the daycare center, the cost of daycare for a family is either the same as municipal early childhood education or 10-20 euros/month more expensive than municipal early childhood education. The family will receive a written decision on the service voucher.
Duty to Notify
The value of the child’s service voucher is reviewed annually. For this review, the family is asked for income information. However, the family must inform the city on its own accord when
- family income changes by +/- 10%, for example due to unemployment or a change in employment
- there is a change in family relationships, for example a change in the number of family members
- a change in custody of the child
- a change in the family’s address
- a change in the child’s need for care
- the child’s early childhood education and care ends.
Early Childhood Education E-Services
Applications for municipal early childhood education are submitted electronically using the early childhood education application form. In addition, the Päikky Huoltaja mobile app is available, which guardians can use to report their children’s care times and keep in touch with the daycare center.
Decisions regarding early childhood education places and fees are sent electronically via the Suomi.fi messages service.
