Household Waste Management

Electronic Forms
Own container
The waste container is purchased by the property owner/occupier and its location requires a road suitable for a waste truck. The longest possible emptying interval for a mixed waste container in a permanent residence (without a composter or separate collection container for biowaste) is four weeks. The waste container in a holiday residence is emptied as needed, but at least three times in the summer with a maximum emptying interval of four weeks.
Shared container and block collection
A shared waste container for several users is the most affordable way to ensure proper waste management. The shared container system can consist of two or more properties belonging to close neighbours In the sparsely populated area, the shared container system can also be formed by village committees and road maintenance committees. The shared container must have a contact person who is responsible for the maintenance of the container. The bill can be divided among the shared container members in the desired proportions.
In Old Rauma, residents have access to two block collection points, which replace the properties’ own waste containers. A monthly fee is charged for block collection. The amount of the fee depends on the number of residents in the property. You can join the block collection by contacting the waste management company’s customer service.

Waste disposal fee
The fee for emptying mixed waste containers and biowaste containers consists of a waste treatment fee and a transport fee.
The fee for emptying packaging waste containers does not include a waste treatment fee, because packaging producers pay for waste treatment.
Eco fee
The waste management eco fee is a fee that covers waste management services that are free of charge to households at the time of service and waste management authority activities. Such services include:
- waste advice
- customer service
- establishment and maintenance of recycling points
- reception of hazardous waste (including pharmaceutical waste)
- administrative services such as maintenance of waste management-related registers
- operations of the waste management authority
- information and communications
In Rauma, the eco fee is included in the mixed waste transport fee.
The Eurajoki eco fee is invoiced separately.
Not collecting the eco fee is only possible when the property is uninhabitable.
Regional waste point fee
The regional waste points in the Luvia area are intended mainly for island cottage residents and for properties located along roads that cannot be reached by waste trucks. The regional waste point fee is property specific.
Block collection fee
The block collection fee is property specific and is determined according to the number of people living in the property. The block collection fee is a monthly fee, invoiced in four installments per calendar year.
Invoices for emptying containers are sent every three months.
The Eurajoki eco-fee and regional waste point fee are invoiced once a year.

Biowaste’s many processing ways
A residential property located in conurbation with 10,000 inhabitants must have a separate collection container or rodent-proof.
Biowaste collection container
- The container will be emptied from the roadside of the property at the agreed time.
- The smallest possible size of the collection container is 140 liters.
- Container has to have wheels, handle and it has to be suitable to be mechanically loadable.
- Containers are sold in hardware stores and waste transport companies also provide containers.
- The container can be conventional (similar to a mixed waste container) or ventilated.
- The container can be shared between several nearby properties (shared collection)
What is the difference between an conventional and a ventilated biowaste container?
Conventional biowaste container:
- conventional container without ventilation holes, similar to a mixed waste container
- emptying intervals can be 1-2 weeks throughout the year
- you can put a normal black garbage bag inside
- if you wish, you can add an inner garbage bag to the biowaste bin as an extra service for a fee
Ventilated biowaste container:
- small holes in the sides of the container to allow ventilation of the waste
- the container has a inner layer with, which allows air to circulate inside the container
- emptying interval can be 1-4 weeks all year round
- when using a ventilated container, the biowaste should be packed in paper bags or bags folded from newspaper to allow the biowaste to dry out and prevent odours.
Composter and composting
Composting is a good way to reuse the biowaste formed at the property.
After you have acquired a composter you only need beddings/ mixture and biowaste.
Start to compost:
Spread beddings/mixture 5-10cm layer to the base of composter. Add alternately biowaste and beddings/ mixture. You should add beddings everytime you add biowaste to the composter.
In a thermally insulated composter the burning of the biowasteis so fast, that the composter should get enough air to stay operational. You should mix up the mass once a month.
Thermally insulated composter that gets enough biowaste and biowaste burns all year round. The need to empty the composter may even be every 6-7 weeks.
It would be good to have second phase composter to composting. When emptying the composter, the easiest thing to do is to put the composted biowaste in the second phase compost. Composted biowaste without phase two/ second stage composting can be too strong for mostgarden plants.
A composter intended for composting biowaste must be rodent-proof.
You can find more information on maintaining a composter, e.g., on the websites of companies that manufacture composters.
Composting must be reported to the waste management authority, electronic form www.rauma.fi/jatehuolto or paper form filled out at the service point Pyyrman.
Compostings notification forms can also be found from the libraries of Eurajoki.
You can also start composting with a neighbor, by getting a composter or using an already existing composter together. Such an option is good if the household generates small amounts of biowaste.
