National Certificates of Language Proficiency (YKI)

The National Certificates of Language Proficiency (YKI) are the language test system of the Finnish government. Anyone can take the tests, regardless of how or where they acquired their language skills. The Finnish language tests are intended for immigrants or foreigners. All other language tests are suitable for Finns whose mother tongue is either Finnish or Swedish. The exams are held on Saturdays at Kari Kampus, Aittakarinkatu 10, 26100 RAUMA.

Test Levels and Prices

The basic test is suitable for adults at an early stage of language learning, for example those who have completed primary or secondary school. The examination fee is 135€.

The intermediate test is suitable for adults who have completed upper secondary school or are otherwise more advanced. The examination fee is 155€.

It is not possible to take the upper level test in Rauma.



Registration and Payment

Registration for the tests is possible only online in here.
After registration you will receive a payment link in your email. If you do not pay the invoice within 8 days, your place will be cancelled.
You will receive a letter at home about a month before the test with instructions and information about the test.
After the test date, it can take about 2 months before you receive your certificate. Please take this into account when choosing a test date that suits you.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

If you are unable to take the test:

  1. Please inform the Rauma Adult Education Centre’s office that you cannot take the test: kansalaisopisto@rauma.fi or 044 793 4513 NOTE! If you wish to cancel, you must do so before the test starts.
  2. You will need a certificate of illness or other serious reason why you cannot take the test. If you are ill, you can obtain a certificate from your doctor. Without a certificate, you cannot cancel or postpone your registration.
  3. After informing us, you can apply to the Finnish National Board of Education for a transfer or cancellation of your registration. You can only transfer your registration to the next exam date at the same examination venue.

The examination fee will be refunded to the account from which it was paid if the Finnish National Board of Education approves your request to cancel your enrolment.
