Paavo Paunu (b. 1965) is known as a painter and sculptor, but his works also playfully push the boundaries between various media. Each individual painting or sculpture tells its own unique story while offering a broader view of the timeless framework of the particular medium.

Maalaus kuvaa hiihtävää miestä erämaata muistuttavassa ympäristössä. Farkkunsa ja kenkänsä riisunut mies kuvataan selin katsojaan ja hänet on puettu harmaaseen puvun takkiin. Hahmon jalat muistuttavat kissaeläimen keltamustaa turkkia. Taustalla siintävä maisema on jätetty viitteelliseksi pintamuotoineen.

“In his work, Paunu constantly reinvents the idea of the medium. He distracts us into seeing things differently and restlessly searches, layers, depicts, and imagines a world that could be possible. It is precisely to that world that his works show us the way,” says exhibition curator Harri Laakso.
