A weather protection structure surrounds the Papinpelto youth centre and youth workshop construction site, where roofing and façade work is being carried out underneath.

Construction of the Papinpelto youth facility and youth workshop has progressed from the structural phase to roofing and facade works. The concrete frame of the building has been completed, and the installation of wall elements, beams and hollow-core slabs is now finished. The project is moving into a phase where the building’s external appearance will begin to take shape.

– The building is starting to take its final form on site, and the overall structure is gradually becoming visible, says Kimmo Salminen, Acting Head of Facility Services.

Facade Works Continue During Summer

During the summer, work is being carried out under a weather protection structure, including roofing works, facade framing and cladding, window installations, and internal partition work. The weather protection was installed in May.

– After the wooden structures of the roof are completed, the work will move on to surface structures. Once the windows and facade are finished, interior work will progress more extensively with partitioning, says Minna Vesterinen, Site Engineer at Hartela.

Work on the ground floor slab is also currently underway, including the installation of insulation, reinforcement and concrete casting. The slab work is expected to be completed by mid-June. In addition, the foundations for a carport are being built on site.

– The weather protection tent will be dismantled in early August, when the roofing and facade work carried out underneath will become visible, says Matti Puustelli, Site Manager at Hartela.

There are currently approximately 12 people working on the site.

Hartela is responsible for the project as a design-and-build contractor, and the principal designer is Renell Käppi Architects Ltd. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.
